On September 14, 2023 we lost AVVA member Linda Olson-Ferguson. She came to our meetings with late husband Bill Ferguson since February 2014. She became an AVVA member in January 2019. Please click on the button below for her obituary.

Ron Kurtz was a NAVY Veteran who died on August 3, 2023. Ron has been a VVA member since 10/13/17. His service was held at Ft Logan on October 13, 2023.

It's sad to report that Bob Wyatt a member since 6/17/16 has passed away on 2/21/23. Bob was an active member of our Chapter and he will be missed greatly. Bob suffered from a list of health problems that all came up at once.

AVVA 1071 Member Robin Braun RIP
On February 10, 2023 AVVA 1071 member lost her battle with cancer. Robin has played Taps for our Honors Burial program and last played for us April 14, 2022 at Fort Logan. The Celebration of Life for Robin was held at Baldoria On The Water located at 146 Van Gordon St. Lakewood, CO at 2:00 PM.

Al Roettger Celebration of Life
Our brother-in-arms Al Roettger passed away on Sept 4, 2021. Al was a huge asset for our Chapter and will be missed by all of us. His exceptional work on the Board of Directors included the administration of our High School Education & Speakers Program. There was a Celebration of Life for Al Roettger on October 3 at 1:00pm at La Sandia restaurant, 8340 Northfield Blvd #1690.

Charlie Heath April 11, 2020
Member Charlie Heath has passed on and was laid to rest at Ft Logan April 17, 2020. Charlie was a retired 1st Sergeant who served with the 1st Cav in Vietnam and member since August 2019. Charlie had his ceremony at Fort Logan on Tuesday August 25th.

Jim Scott has been a VVA member since 3/4/2008. He retired from the U.S. Army and served 2 tours in Vietnam. Jim was laid to rest at Fort Logan on Nov 6, 2019, see details in his Obituary.

Bill has been a loyal chapter member since Feb 2014. He served in Vietnam as a Combat Engineer for two tours back to back from 1965 – 1966.

Member Bob Hartman was laid to rest at Ft Logan July 26, 2019. Bob was a member since May 2016 and he helped our Chapter out at many events.

Dan Dietz May 5, 1952 - April 28, 2018
Dan was a founding member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1071. He was a very active member from the conception until his death. Dan was dedicated to make it a wonderful organization it is today, they started with 12 members and now have 190 members.

Attending the funeral at Fort Logan were Terry Ritenour, Jim Topkoff, Jose Gonzalez, Jim Miles, and Marty Chavez. Also attending were the Veterans Honor Guard, Ft Logan Team, US Army Honor Team and Colorado State Patrol.

Bob Garcia September 20, 1946 - September 14, 2016
Bob Garcia passed away on 9/14/2016 at the Collier Hospice Center. Bob was a dedicated member of our Chapter and worked as a mentor for the Veterans Treatment Court of Jefferson County, talking to troubled veterans. Our Chapter and the Veterans Court will miss him very much. May you rest in peace Bob.
Bob served in the U.S. Navy from 1964-1967 and was awarded the Vietnam Service medal and two Bronze Stars. He also served in the Army briefly and retired from the Boiler Makers Union. He enjoyed his toys and stuff, but never once bragged. He enjoyed his AA family and meetings. He had many friends from different walks of life. He loved riding his mororcycles, one at a time, of course! He enjoyed life to the fullest. He was content with his life. May he rest in peace. Save journeys my friend.

Fellow VVA Member Jay Hand passed away Thursday 4/23/2015. Jay was a great guy and supported our Chapter in all of it's functions and will be truly missed. The service for Jay Hand was at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Wednesday the 29th at 2:15 PM. Honors by the United States Army Honors Team. Jay also had a Gun Salute ceremony at Ft. Logan on June 13th at 11:00 AM, Shelter A.

Lewis E Abbott (Gene) August 25th 1950-November 16th 2012 Gene Abbott died Friday November 16th 2012 in Aurora, CO after a long Battle with Carcinoid Cancer. Following High School he enlisted in the army and served his country from 1969-1972.
