I received an In-County Briefing and issued new undercover indentification as a Rand Corp, civilian employee, doing a socialologic/economic survey of the Vietnam War on the Vietnamese economy. I was assigned to the small 1000-year-old town of Rach Gia, Kien Giang Province in 4 Corp, in the Mekong Delta on the Gulf of Siam. I lived on the economy in an apartment/office outpost. I was a Liason/Advisor to the Vietnamese National Police and Vietnamese CIA, know as MSS or An-Ninh Quan-Doi.
I conducted security evaluations of the Town and Vietnamese Military facilities, Police and Vietnamese Intelligence Agents. I had a full time Intelligence agent/interrupter, assigned to work with me. I was embedded with the Vietnamese. I went on police patrols and responsed to crime and combat situations ususally VC attacks on the town and military facilities. I helped interrogate VC captured prisonors, developed tactical information for US Military response. There were 34 American Advisors in the Province and no US Military Units, my work was with the Army of Vietnam (ARVN) personnel.
After 10 months, I was wounded by an explosive bobby trap which killed 10 and wounded two (me and one other US Army Advisor to ARVN). I was medivaced to Japan for treatment of two broken legs and a bullet in my back. I recovered after 6 months and returned to duty as an Agent in San Francisco. I attained the rank of SGT (E-5). I left Active duty to return to college in 1969 and receiving an Honarale discharge in 1972.
After service in Vietnam, I served 34 years in local and federal law enforcement, (6 years as a Deputy Sheriff/Detective, 5 years as a District Attorney Investigator, and 22 years at a US Postal Inspector, I retired in 2002.
After retirement from the Inspection Service I was employed by Netflix as a Western Region Corporate Security Manager for 5 years; responsible for Company products, buildings, and employee security and crimes in all states west of the Mississippi River. I left Netflix in 2009. I am currently retired, in Westminster, CO with my wife of 54 years, Lora.
