In Aug of 1968 I was drafted into the Army was sent to Ft. Lewis Washington for basic training. I then was sent to Ft. Leonard Wood Missouri for Combat Engr. A.I.T training from October to Nov. of 1968. I then went home on leave in Dec.1968. After my leave was up I reported to Oakland Army Depot. On Jan 2, 1969 I reported for duty in Vietnam. After a few weeks of bouncing around here and there I arrived at a place called LZ Mary Lou in the central highlands of Vietnam my unit was Company C, 4th Combat Engineer BN, 4th Inf. Div. that was by a city called Kontum city. The area around it has a lot of mountains and heavy jungles. I never can forget the smell of the place. I was so young and I often wonder how I managed to get out of that place I give my thanks to God for watching over me and keeping me safe. My MOS was 12B30 Combat Engineer Squad Leader
