Frank joined the Marines on November 16, 1940 and was shipped to Shanghai, China in the Spring of 1941. On Thanksgiving Day, 1941, he was given orders to ship out to the Phillipine Islands. He was taken prisoner on May 6, 1942. Surviving the Bataan Death March, he was interred at Bilibad and Camp 5 in the Phillipines. From there, he was sent to Japan and was imprisoned at Camp Kawasaki and Nigota. He was released on September 6, 1945. He was discharged on May 14, 1946.
